Aquaponic gardening is a very green way to garden. To grow plants and vegetables using a aquaponic system it is necessary to have a container of fish that is used as the reservoir to feed the plants. This can be a fish tank that is 50 to 100 gals, or plastic containers built to hold livestock food or water.
You can use plastic pond units that can be purchased form stores or online. These are set into the ground by digging a hole to fit or set it up on top of the ground.Other ways to house the fish are ponds dug into the dirt and use pond liners.
The pond liners are designed to have fish, and living aquatic life forms and plants. So they would be safe for fish, plants, and vegetables that humans will eat.
Ponds can be put into greenhouses by digging into the ground of the greenhouse or once again setting on top of the floor.

This picture shows the greenhouse floor, which was dirt, and the different levels for the pond. You can see the pressure treated 4x4 that surrounds the pond.
The next step is to put pond liner on top of dirt and then frame and plank the pond like the picture below.
